Jury out on Zimbabwe election fraud: New Zealand leader

(dpa) - It remained to be seen whether the Zimbabwe elections were free and fair, New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark said on Monday.

"They're still counting - and that's a worry," she told her weekly news conference.

"The last time, we know, there was outright fraud in the Zimbabwe elections so the jury is out as to whether history repeats itself in that regard."

Noting that inflation in the African country had topped 100,000 per cent, Clark said, "The reports I see of Zimbabwe are so concerning.

"Zimbabwe is on its knees. Zimbabwe needs a very, very, big programme of reform and change - the question is whether that will come quickly or whether it's delayed."
