Iranian Communications and Information Technology ministry brought clarity to confusion over opening of the Yandex office in Tehran.

The initial suggestion for opening an office of Yandex in Iran came from Nikolai Nikiforov, Russian Minister of Communications, Mohammad Reza Farnaghizadeh, head of Public Relations Office at Iran's Communications and Information Technology Ministry told Trend Oct. 27.

Nikiforov expressed readiness for opening an office of the Russian search engine Yandex in Tehran during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Vaezi on Oct. 25, Farnaghizadeh said, adding the Iranian side welcomed the suggestion.

He underlined that no more details were discussed on the issue.

It should be noted that Vaezi speaking to reporters on the sidelines of his meeting with Nikiforov said that it was agreed that Yandex would open an office in Iran to optimize its services for the Iranian people.

Meanwhile an official with the company's press office told Trend Oct. 26 that Yandex currently has no plans to open new offices which led to confusion over the issue.

However Yandex emphasized that the company is open to new cooperation opportunities.

Farnaghizadeh made clear that the issue for the first time discussed in Tehran during the ministers meeting and most likely the company's official was not informed about the Tehran negotiations.

Yandex is a Russian Internet company that operates the largest search engine in Russia with about 60 percent market share in that country. It also develops a number of Internet-based services and products.

The company ranked as the 4th largest search engine worldwide, based on information from Comscore.com, with more than 150 million searches per day as of April 2012, and more than 50.5 million visitors (all company's services) daily as of February 2013.
