Iran recently paid $300 million of its debts to Iran over power imports and currently has $800 million more remaining, projected to be paid in future, Deputy Energy Minister Houshang Falahatian said May 19.
According to him, Iran has tripled power export during the first two months of the current fiscal year, started March 21, compared to the same period in last year.
He didn’t mentioned the exact volume of exports, but according to Energy Ministry’s official statistics, Iran decreased electricity export by 78 percent to 300 million kWh in two months of the last fiscal year, while the imports increased by 6 percent to 789 million kWh.
Iran cut power export to Iraq for two months over its $1.2 billion delayed debts, but resumed in March again.
Falahatian said that Iran plans to increase the total electricity exports to 10 billion kWh during the current fiscal year.
Iran increased electricity import by 4 percent to 4.336 billion KWh, while its electricity export decreased by 33 percent to 6.503 billion kWh during the last fiscal year.
The country’s actual power generation capacity and actual electricity generation stood at 59 GW and 286 billion kWh during last fiscal year.
