Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said information spread about the introduction of a visa regime with Georgia by Belarus needs double-checking.

She said the Border Guard reported this arrangement, but the details need to be checked again.

"Such information has been spread in the past," Kalandadze said. "Illegal migration cases are observed because of visa-free communication with Belarus. Therefore, I associate the spread of this information with technical problems. Our ambassador to Belarus will meet with his colleagues and clarify the details."

Belarusian First Deputy State Border Committee Chairman Andrei Gorulko said earlier that his country may introduce a visa regime with Georgia. Gorulko said the issue is being considered under the common customs area at the Foreign Ministry.
