The number of registered drug addicts increases by 1,000 in Azerbaijan annually, Deputy Health Minister Elsevyar Agayev said at the event, held under the slogan "Say No Drug".
Agayev added that more than 26,700 drug addicts have been officially registered in Azerbaijan. About 80 percent of them are injecting drug users. There are thousands of unregistered drug addicts.
The head of the working group of the State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs Araz Aliguliyev stressed that 80 percent of drug addicts registered in Azerbaijan are users of hard drugs.
He stressed adolescents often use various psychotropic and hallucinogenic substances.
"They are acetone, glue sold in shops and some medications given without a prescription," he said.
