Iran has launched a complex for producing 3.5 percent-enriched nuclear fuel rods for first time, all tests was resulted positive, the head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Fereydoon Abbasi told ISNA.
Abbasi added that the size of 3.5 percent nuclear fuel rods is similar to that of the 20 percent-enriched plates that were loaded into Tehran's pool-type nuclear reactor in Amirabad.
The Tehran reactor was loaded with domestically produced nuclear fuel plates during a ceremony of unveiling Iran's latest nuclear achievements in February 2011.
Iran has been producing 3.5 percent nuclear fuel since last six month, Abbasi added.
Iran says it planned construction of 20 new power plants in size of Busher NPP (with 1000 Mw electricity production capacity).
The Bushehr NPP, Iran's first nuclear plant constructed by Russia was officially launched on September 12.
The western countries suspect Iran of preparing to make nuclear weapons. Iran says its nuclear activities aimed at peaceful purposes.
So far, The United Nation Security Council has adopted four rounds of sanctions on Iran. The U.S and its allies also slapped more tightened sanctions on Iran, including embargoes over Iranian banking system and oil crude purchase.
