Brazil decided Wednesday to deploy a ship to fetch some 180 employees of the construction company Queiroz Galvao from troubled Libya, dpa reported.

"The expectation is that a ship, and no longer an aeroplane, arrives in Benghazi on (February) 23-24 to get the 180 Brazilians who are there, who are employees of the firm Queiroz Galvao and their families," an unnamed source at the Brazilian Foreign Ministry told the news website UOL.

The source said that the ship was deployed with the assistance of the Brazilian Embassy in Greece was expected to take the Brazilians to Malta, from where they are to travel to the South American country.

Brazilian authorities and the construction firm had been trying since the weekend to get the affected people out of Libya by plane. However, they failed to obtain permission for the plane to land in Benghazi.

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry estimates that 500 to 600 of its citizens are currently living in Libya, including employees of the construction companies, Queiroz Galvao and Odebrecht, and of the state-run oil giant Petrobras. Petrobras said late Tuesday that it is also considering a move to get its employees out of Libya.
