Azerbaijan enhances agricultural cooperation with European countries

Poland is interested in crop production cooperation with Azerbaijan, Polish Agriculture and Development Minister Marek Sawicki said at a meeting with Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister Ismet Abasov.

"This is a promising sphere of cooperation between the two countries in agriculture," Sawicki said.

Lithuanian Agriculture Minister Kazys Starkevičius also said during a bilateral meeting with Abasov that both countries are preparing an agreement on agricultural cooperation.

"We intend to develop cooperation with Azerbaijan in the sphere of agriculture, particularly in livestock sector," Starkevičius said.

Abasov informed the guests about the situation in Azerbaijan's agricultural sector and expressed confidence in the further strengthening and enhancing of the partnership with these countries.

Abasov will further hold bilateral meetings with the participants of the Food and Agriculture Organization Conference in Baku.

Baku is hosting the 28th European Regional Conference of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the 37th Session of the European Commission on Agriculture.

The organization helps developing countries and countries with a transition economy to upgrade and improve the agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors. Since its establishment in 1945, the conference focuses on the development of rural areas, where 70 percent of the world's poor population facing starvation live.

The FAO includes 191 member states, two associate members and an
organization - the EU.
