Azerbaijan’s Agriculture Ministry plans to create a new business incubation program in the agriculture sector in order to stimulate the business environment and apply startups in agriculture, Adviser to Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture for Innovations Shabnam Mammadova told Trend.

She said this initiative is provided in accordance with the ongoing reforms in agriculture.

“Implementation of this business idea is necessary for broad support to farmers, and we are working so that startups appear in the agriculture sector,” she said. “This sector plays a huge role in the development of the economy, so we envisage the implementation of this idea in the near future.”

Mammadova noted that startups are popular abroad, especially in the leading countries of Europe.

“For example, in the UK, mainly all startups are involved in the financial sector; in Israel, startups are mostly involved in the medical and agriculture sectors,” she added. “Based on the research and in-depth analysis, we came to a conclusion that startups in Azerbaijan must be used specifically in the agriculture sector, and in the very near future.”

Mammadova noted that active work is being conducted in this direction in the ministry.
