Living wage increases in Kazakhstan

The living wage per capita calculated on the basis of minimum standards of consumption of basic food products, increased by 1.7 per cent to 16,983 tenge in January 2013 compared to the previous month, a $101 increase, Kazakh Agency for Statistics reported.

The living wage per capita calculated on the basis of minimum standards of consumption of basic food products, increased by 1.7 per cent to 16,983 tenge in January 2013 compared to the previous month, a $101 increase, Kazakh Agency for Statistics reported.

The living wage increased by 7.4 per cent compared to January 2012.

In its structure the share of expenses for meat and fish was 23.6 per cent, diary, oil and fat products, and eggs 16.3 per cent, fruit and vegetables 10.2 per cent, bread and cereal products 7.8 per cent and sugar, tea and spices 2.1 per cent.

A living wage is the required minimum cash income per person equal to the value of the minimum consumer basket.

This basket represents a minimum set of food, goods and services necessary to ensure human activities in physical and value terms. It consists of a food basket and a fixed share of the expenses of non-food goods and services. The basket contains 43 items of food.
A fixed share of the expenses of the minimum required of non-food goods and services to calculate a living wage is set at 40 per cent of the cost of the minimum food basket.
