Tajikistan unveils electricity production by Barqi Tojik National Company

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 11. The volume of electricity generated by the power stations of Barqi Tojik, Tajikistan's national power company, reached 7.868 billion kWh (kilowatt-hours) from January through June 2023, Abdullo Kurbonzoda, the First Deputy Director of the company, said, Trend reports.

According to him, during this reporting period, electricity losses on hydroelectric power stations (HPPs) and thermal power plants (TPPs) operated by Barqi Tojik totaled 38.8 million kWh, or 0.49 percent of the generated electricity.

Meanwhile, the electricity production at the Sangtuda-1 HPP from January through July 2023 reached 1.385.5 billion kWh, while at the Sangtuda-2 HPP, it was 435.5 million kWh. At the Rogun HPP, electricity production stood at 963.7 million kWh.

Overall, electricity production in Tajikistan totaled 10.653 billion kWh from January through June 2023. This indicates an increase of 341.2 million kWh in comparison to the same period the previous year.

Approximately 95 percent of the electricity was generated by hydroelectric power plants, with the remaining portion coming from thermal power plants and small-scale solar stations.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the country achieved a record electricity production of approximately 21.4 billion kWh in 2022, marking the highest level since its independence.
