EBRD, Uzbekistan talk boosting co-op in green financing field

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 20. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Central Bank of Uzbekistan have discussed cooperation in the field of green financing, Trend reports.

As a result of the meeting between the representatives of the institutions, held at the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, and agreement was reached on comprehensive collaboration in this regard.

During the meeting, the EBRD delegation got acquainted with the macroeconomic situation in Uzbekistan, the banking system, and the ongoing reforms in the financial sector, particularly the privatization processes of major state banks.

Both parties discussed projects being implemented under mutual cooperation, including improving monetary policy transmission, developing the money market, and repo auctions.

Meanwhile, the current loan portfolio of the EBRD projects in Uzbekistan has totaled 2.58 million euros.

In particular, the EBRD's loan portfolio is calculated for implementation of 84 projects (up by 14 projects since April 2023).

The major part of the portfolio, 77 percent or 1.98 billion euros, focuses on sustainable infrastructure. The remaining 16 percent, in particular, some 422 million euros is directed toward financial institutions, while to industry, commerce, and agribusiness – 184 million euros (7 percent).

In general, the bank has invested more than 4.3 billion euros in 144 projects in Uzbekistan.
