Free Syrian Army Commander Riad Asaad said two battalions, Abu Ubaida ben Jarrah and Muawiya ben Abi Sufyan, were established under the measures taken to protect civil protestors and resist to the Syrian security forces, Al Arabiya reported.
He claimed that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad will face the same fate of Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi. "The fall of the Al-Assad regime will be faster than you expect," he stated.
Riyad Asaad underscored that the Free Syrian Army has no political goals except liberation of Syria from Al Asad's regime. He urged the Syrian Opposition to unite to this end.
Fifty-year old Asaad announced his defection from the Syrian army in July and explained his decision with the brutal crackdowns against civilian protestors.
He joined the Free Officers Movement established by Syrian colonel Hussein Harmush
