Liverpool appoint Clarke as coach

Former Chelsea coach Steve Clarke was confirmed as Liverpool's new first-team coach to work alongside manager Kenny Dalglish on Monday.

Dalglish replaced Roy Hodgson as manager on Saturday, and Clarke is his first appointment. Sammy Lee remains assistant manager, DPA reported.

"Steve is a great addition to our backroom team and I'm delighted we've been able to bring him into the club," Dalglish told the club website.

"I am looking forward to working with Steve alongside Sammy Lee (assistant manager) and our other technical staff."

Clarke worked alongside Jose Mourinho at Chelsea as they won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two Carling Cups over three seasons.
