( http://for-ua.com/ ) - Victor Yushchenko has asked the government and Lugansk Governor Oleksandr Antypov to pay off a UAH 2 million salary debt at the Krasnopilska coal mine in the Lugansk region, President's press office informed.

The government is going to spend UAH 5.1 billion on the coal industry in 2007 but cannot find the money to pay the miners, he said.

The President believes the problem shows that the industry is in crisis because of inadequate reforms. He complained that the government has not yet used instruments to develop the so-called depressed regions, the Krasnopilska mine being located in one of such regions. He said its closure would definitely contribute to growing unemployment and poverty.

Mr. Yushchenko urged the government to introduce reforms in the industry to resolve problems like thatin the Lugansk region.
