Bosphorus Gas plans to import gas from Kazakhstan

Turkish-Russian joint venture Bosphorus Gas plans to import gas from Kazakhstan to Turkey via the western route, the Zaman newspaper quotes the company CEO Metin Sen as saying on Tuesday.

The company plans to purchase annually about 750 million cubic meters of gas within 10 years.

Mr Sen saidBosphorus Gas has all the legal rights to import Kazakh gas.

"The company has already appealed to the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) to get permission for import of gas from Kazakhstan," Sen said.

Capacity of proven natural gas reserves in Kazakhstan currently hit 1.8 trillion cubic meters.

According to statistical data of the Turkish State Pipeline Company Botas, in 2011 Turkey imported 39.7 billion cubic meters of gas. Russia ranks first among exporters of gas to Turkey, and the country is followed by Iran and Azerbaijan.
