Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salihi is set to visit Turkey for a one-day official trip on July 12, Turkey's Foreign Ministry said in a statement, Todays Zaman reported.

The Iranian foreign minister will meet with his Turkish counterpart and the two are expected to discuss regional developments, the military coup in Egypt and the recent situation on the ground in Syria.

Turkey and Iran are at odds over their handling of the prolonged Syrian crisis, which threatens regional instability with a wider escalation of the conflict.

Yet despite apparent differences in their approach regarding the protracted fighting in Syria, Ankara and Tehran are working closely to contain the crisis.

Both countries have expressed their uneasiness with the military's ousting of democratically elected President Mohammed Morsi in Egypt.
