The level of radioactivity at Japan's Onagawa nuclear power plant is back down to normal levels, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said late Sunday, dpa reported.

Earlier, Japanese authorities had declared a low-level emergency because of increased radioactivity measurements at the site.

Japanese authorities told the Vienna-based IAEA that the previous above-limit readings may have come from radioactive material released from the Fukushima 1 nuclear plant, where engineers have been scrambling to keep reactors under control since Friday's earthquake.

Investigations at Onagawa indicated that no radioactivity escaped from any of its three reactors, the IAEA said, citing official information from Japan.
