An Azerbaijani left party is going to take part in the municipal elections independently.
At a meeting of the party's Central Council a decision was made that socialists in the most constituencies would take part, The Azerbaijani People's Socialist Party (APSP) said.
Azerbaijan will hold municipal elections in December 2009.
Azerbaijan has held municipal elections before, in 1999 and 2004.
Azerbaijani Parliament adopted a law on the unification of municipalities. Under this law, the number of municipalities decreased from 2,757 to 1,766.
At the meeting of the Central Council, the party again announced that the left will not create any bloc in the elections. The APSP has determined the representatives which have been authorized to take part in elections in the regions, the party said.
