PACE observation mission to visit Azerbaijan in mid October

A delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), composed of five people, is due to visit Azerbaijan on Oct. 18 to monitor the run-up to November parliamentary elections, the head of the Council of Europe's Baku office, Veronika Kotek, has told media in Baku.

A delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), composed of five people, is due to visit Azerbaijan on Oct. 18 to monitor the run-up to November parliamentary elections, the head of the Council of Europe's Baku office, Veronika Kotek, has told media in Baku.

She said that a second mission will directly observe the conduct of the elections several days before voting begins on Nov. 7. The second mission will consist of 30 PACE members and the Mps to take part will be named soon, Kotek said.

Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.
