The Parliament of Azerbaijan adopted the bill on social service in the first reading at a plenary session on Tuesday.
This bill is part of the ongoing social reforms in the country, the chairman of the social policy committee Hadi Rajabli said at the meeting.
He said this law in Azerbaijan will help protect 4,308 homeless children, 410,000 disabled people, more than 400,000 elderly people who were registered in the country.
Rajabli said this bill has been prepared taking into account the practices of foreign countries. Under the new law, there will be defined the categories of citizens who need social assistance.
The status of social workers, their rights and responsibilities will be determined after creating a legal framework for social services in Azerbaijan.
Social workers will carry out their activities not as volunteers, but will get paid for their work from the state.
