The Syrian regime has chemical weapons, therefore its use against civilians by this regime is possible, Anadolu agency quotes Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu as telling journalists on Wednesday.

"The Syrian regime is going to kill those whom it failed to kill with bullets and tanks, using chemical weapons," Davutoglu said.

According to Davutoglu, Bashar al-Assad is carrying out ethnic cleansing against the Sunni population of the country and the international community should not turn a blind eye to it.

The Syrian government stated that on March 19 the opposition used chemical weapons in Aleppo. The opposition in turn argues government forces used it in Homs in December last year. At the same time, the Syrian authorities refused to allow a mission of the UN experts on chemical weapons to enter the country. The investigation of both incidents has not been started.

The conflict has continued in Syria since March 2011. According to the UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria exceeds 70,000.
