Baku, Azerbaijan, May 16

Today, one can say with full confidence that the youth, which Azerbaijan's national leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev would like to see, has already been formed, the Azerbaijani president's aide for public and political affairs, Ali Hasanov, said.
"This is a healthy youth, capable of adequately representing the future of Azerbaijan," Hasanov said May 16 at the 4th report-election conference of the youth association of the country's ruling New Azerbaijan Party.
"Azerbaijani statehood, which restored its independence in 1991 and underwent a process of formation of a new social and political system, has walked a tough path of independent development over a 24-year history, facing various hardships," he said.
Hasanov said that throughout these years, the Azerbaijani people and state, being loyal to the ideas of freedom, overcoming the hard and severe obstacles, have taken decisive steps to build a democratic, legal and secular state.
"These positive changes have borne fruit both in the work with the youth, and in various spheres of the society, he added.
Hasanov expressed regret that in the early years of independence, the Azerbaijani youth acted as a guarantor of the interests of individual political groups.
He said the groups that were fighting for political power, were creating chaos in the country, were turning the youth, which had to be mobilized to strengthen the Azerbaijani statehood, into a means of political games.
He said that after Heydar Aliyev's second return to power, the socio-political stability, prosperity, democratic atmosphere created in the country, and the political and economic reforms facilitated a serious breakthrough both in all the spheres of the county's life and in the work with the youth, becoming a cause for implementation of serious work in this area.
"The ministry of youth and sports was created, forums began to be held, the youth day was founded, and there have been other important events," Hasanov added.
He said the youth that is worthy of Azerbaijan, is growing today in the country, and this is the result of a successful youth policy, the foundations of which were laid by the great leader Heydar Aliyev, and which is being continued under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
Hasanov said the young people in Azerbaijan, acquiring deep knowledge, mastering the modern world-view and the national ideas of Azerbaijanism, are being formed as worthy citizens of the country.
