Investigation into Azerbaijani Journalist’s Lawsuit Continues

Azerbaijan, Baku, 9 September / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / Investigation into suit of Mahal Imsayiloglu, an Azerbaijani journalists and former editor-in-chief of Khalg Gazeti newspaper continues.

Investigation is being held in accordance with Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code, which was brought at the investigation department of the Absheron District Police Department (DPD) on 23 July in 2008. It was reported at a response letter of the Head Investigation Department to the Press Council's apply, which was sent to the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry, the Press Council told Trend on 8 September.

On 27 June, Ismayiloglu was arrested in line with complaint of maidservant of Vahid Imanov, his neighbor and high-ranking official of the Interior Ministry, which was sent to the Absheron DPD on 21 June. He was set free after interrogation. Ismayiloglu connected this fact with article of Dry Tears, which was published in Yeni Musavat newspaper on 7 June.

According to the reply letter, object of investigation was Ismayiloglu's hooliganism, including, unquotable abuse, delivering blows to injured person's different parts of body, delivering craniocerebral injury, haematoma on left temporal area and other severe injuries, using a stone as arm.
