No official appeal has been made to the Azerbaijani Agricultural Ministry from Mexico on explanation grounds for limits on pork import from this country, Agriculture Minister Ismat Abasov said.
"The virus [swine flu] has been fixed in 21 countries. Azerbaijan banned the import of cattle from those countries," Abasov said.
Eight countries have officially banned the import of pork due to the cases of virus A/H1N1. Those countries are Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Honduras, China, United Arab Emirates, Russia, Ukraine and Ecuador. Mexico has officially lodged an inquiry before the World Trade Organization (WTO) due to limits on pork import.
"The inquiry is asking those eight countries to explain the reason of limiting import, including scientific grounds," Mexico Economy Minister Gerardo Ruiz Mateos said at a press conference in Mexico.
The epizootic situation in connection with the swine flu virus is stable in Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani Government is taking efforts to prevent the spread of the virus in the country, Minister Abasov said.
"We are holding monitoring in pork farms," he added.
Azerbaijan has never imported cattle products from Mexico, the Agriculture Ministry State Veterinary Service reported.
