OJSC Unibank has been given a prestigious award of MasterCard International for achievements in developing the card products in Azerbaijan, the bank's report says on Thursday.
Unibank won the Fastest Growing MasterCard Maestro Card Base in Azerbaijan nomination for 2011. The comfortable and beneficial customer service conditions as well as the tailored approach to every customer's needs enabled Unibank to increase the number of the holders of the MaestroCards it issues by 2.2 times during 2011.
The MasterCard Gold and MasterCard Platinum sales were especially impressive: the number of such cards' holders rose more than 3.5 times in last two years. Besides, the cashless transactions on the MasterCards rose by 660 percent in comparison with the year before last.
"The award from MasterCard International shows that Unibank is active promoting the projects that are designed to foster the payment card usage culture in Azerbaijan," Faig Zeynalov, Deputy Chairman of the Board and Retail Banking Director of Unibank, said.
In the opinion of Mr Zeynalov, the middle-income customers are the most active plastic card users. These people have diverse interests and the active attitude to life; they are perceptive to innovations in the financial market and, at the same time, they are demanding when it comes to the speed and quality of banking services.
"We are glad that our services are in demand with specifically such clients holding the MasterCards," Mr Zeynalov remarked, adding that, by his forecasts, Unibank is fit to remain the MasterCard issue growth leader in 2012 as well.
Unibank began to issue the MasterCard cards in 2007 and became MasterCard's acquirer in 2008. The card project programmes of Unibank are aimed at the customers that have the especially high shopping, travelling and e-shopping profiles and prefer cashless payments.
