Kazakhstan, South Africa discusses expansion of trade and economic cooperation

The meeting between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev and Ambassador of South Africa in the Republic Manaklal Sony was held in Astana, the ministry said.

The meeting between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev and Ambassador of South Africa in the Republic Manaklal Sony was held in Astana, the ministry said.

Sagintayev noted during the meeting that more and more local companies are actively present in the South African market in recent years, however, the current level of trade and economic cooperation requires additional momentum.

The parties discussed the issues of trade and economic cooperation, and exchanged views on the forthcoming visit of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to the Republic of South Africa, which "will provide a platform for further expansion of the Kazakhstan-South African cooperation."

In conclusion Sagintayev thanked the South African side for the support of the international initiatives of Kazakhstan, including such as the conduct of the international exhibition Expo-2017 in Astana.

In 2011 the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and the Republic of South Africa amounted to $35.1 million. The figure was $19.7 million in 2010.
