Assets of Turkey’s banking sector increased by 12.6 percent in 2012 compared to 2011, reaching 1.371 trillion liras, a report of Turkish Banking Regulation and Supervisory Agency (BDDK) said on Wednesday.

Assets of Turkey's banking sector increased by 12.6 percent in 2012 compared to 2011, reaching 1.371 trillion liras, a report of Turkish Banking Regulation and Supervisory Agency (BDDK) said on Wednesday.

The Turkish banking sector's profits grew by 19.2 percent in 2012 compared to 2011, hitting 23.6 billion Liras. Return on equity (ROE) of the banking sector stood at 15.8 percent.

The volume of loans granted by Turkish banks in 2012 increased by 15 percent compared to 2011, reaching 794.8 billion liras.

The report states that the capital adequacy ratio of Turkish banks for the period amounted to 17.9 percent.

The official exchange rate is 1.7667 TRY / USD on February 13.
