Iraq has banned the import of a number of goods from Turkey, such as eggs, ice cream and drinks, Head of the Turkish Federation of Food and Beverage Manufacturers (TGDF) Ilknur Menlik said, Trend reports via Turkish media.
The reasons for the ban have not been reported yet.
Menlik noted that Turkey’s revenues from exporting food and beverages to Iraq amounted to $2.8 billion in 2018.
Last year, Turkey exported ice cream worth $5.5 million to Iraq, she said.
Menlik added that the ban on the import of Turkish food products to Iraq could have a negative impact on trade turnover. According to her, the ban on the import of Turkish goods was introduced since May 2019.
Companies that previously exported eggs to Iraq for 33-36 Turkish kurush are now forced to sell them on the domestic market for 22-23 kurush.
In 2018, trade turnover between Turkey and Iraq amounted to $9.766 billion.
