Georgia has signed a contract with China State Construction Engineering Corporation LLC, the winner of an international tender announced for the construction of another section of the Chumateleti-Khevi section of Rikoti Pass in Georgia, Trend reports citing the Road Department of Georgia.

The cost of the project, which is to be implemented in three years, is about 330 million lari. The project works include the construction of a four-lane road, 22 new bridges and three tunnels on the 11.6 km section of Chumateleti-Khevi. Over 5,000 people will be employed in the construction of the road, 80 percent of whom are local workers.

The new road will comply with all modern standards of road safety and will ensure a doubling of speed, which will ultimately lead to a halving of travel time.

In total, it is planned to build a road up to 51.6 kilometers in length at Ricoti Pass, which will include 96 bridges and 53 tunnels. The construction of the road should be completed in June 2022. The modernization of the Ricoti Pass is crucial for the development of the road network and its compliance with modern standards.

China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd, formally established on December 10, 2007, was co-initiated by four Fortune Global 500 enterprises including, among others, China State Construction Engineering Corp. (CSCEC), China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Baosteel Group Corporation Ltd and Sinochem Corporation.
