Iran boosts olive oil production, focuses on increasing consumption

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 29

Iran produced 11,600 tons of olive oil in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad P(ministry) and Executive of the olive project of the ministry Rahmatollah Parichehr said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to the deputy minister, seven years ago (the Iranian government came to power in 2013), Iran produced only 3,300 tons of olive oil.

The deputy minister added that in the current Iranian year, the focus is on increasing the production of olive oil in terms of quality and quantity.

Parichehr noted that it is also planned to increase the consumption of olive oil in Iran.

"Currently, consumption of olive oil per capita is low in Iran compared to the annual consumption in the world, which stands at 500 grams per capita. The plans are to reach this figure in Iran," he said.
