Iran's Drilling International Limited (DCI) has, for the first time in the country, designed the first offshore drilling jacket protection system Rack Phase Difference (RPD) and increased the capacity of the system for the first time in Iran, Executive Director of DCI Hamidreza Saghafi said, Trend reports citing National Iranian Oil Company’s (NIOC) website.
According to the director, the company's specialists installed and tested the RPD system on the DCI-1 offshore drilling platform.
He added that the RPD system can control the load on offshore rigs and each jacket of the rig, and prevent damage to the jacket.
Saghafi said that the design of this system was brought up as part of a cost-reducing plan. Initial estimates required more than $100,000 to repair the equipment.
"However, the funds were not spent, because the equipment was redesigned at the company, and the designed product could be sold to companies that have such drilling rigs," he said.
Iran's International Mining Company operates under the subordinate of Petroiran Development Company. The company invests in a number of companies and operates in offshore and onshore oil and gas drilling.
