It is forecasted that more than 5 million tons of sugar beet will be harvested in Iran in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Manager for ‘Sugar Beet Project” of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Peyman Hesadi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
Hesadi said that the sugar beet will be harvested from about 99,000 hectares of land in Iran.
He added that about 60,000 tons of sugar beet were harvested from 1,100 hectares over about 10 days.
The manager stressed in addition, autumn planting of sugar beet has started in the southern regions of Iran, especially in the Khuzestan Province.
According to Hesadi, it is estimated to harvest 1.2 million tons of sugar beet from the current autumn planting.
“At the same time, about 140 million cubic meters of water will be saved during the current autumn planting,” he noted.
