BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 4. The exact gold reserves of the mines of Iran’s South Khorasan Province in the north-east of the country are currently about 64 million tons, Head of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of South Khorasan Province, Hamid Hassan Nejad told IRNA, Trend reports.
The official emphasized that the South Khorasan Province is considered one of the main provinces of the country in terms of gold reserves. There are 6 active gold mining operating in the province.
Hassan Nejad also said that 529,000 tons of raw gold were produced from the mines of the province last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).
According to him, the most amount raw gold – 390,000 tons was extracted from Shadan gold mine in Khusf County of the province for the last Iranian year.
“At present, 700 people work in the gold mines of South Khorasan Province,” Hassan Nejad added.
The official also pointed out that there are 3 gold processing plants operating in the province.
In general, there are 741 mines in Iran’s South Khorasan province of Iran. The mentioned mines have a total of 6.9 billion tons of mining reserves, and account for about 13 percent of Iran's total mineral reserves. There are 57 types of mining minerals in the province's mines, including coal, precious metals, iron ore, copper, dolomite, travertine and others.
