BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 9. More than 977,000 tons of sugar beet are expected to be harvested in Iran’s Khuzestan Province in the south-west of the country for the current planting year (September 23, 2022 through September 22, 2023), Deputy Director of Khuzestan Province Agriculture Department, Touraj Nowruzi told ISNA, Trend reports.
According to Nowruzi, sugar beet is currently harvested from 16,285 hectares of land in the province.
The deputy director said that it is planned to harvest 60 tons of sugar beet per hectare in Khuzestan Province. He also added sugar beet harvesting in the province will last for about 1.5 months.
The official noted that sugar beet harvested in the province is taken over by 12 sugar processing plants.
The Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Jihad has set the price of 1 kilogram of sugar beet in Iran at 27,000 rials (about $0.64) in the current planting year.
Meanwhile in the last planting year (September 23, 2021 through September 22, 2022), a total of 6.7 million tons of sugar beet were harvested in Iran. Of that, 5.3 million tons were harvested in the spring season, while 1.4 million tons in the winter season.
