Iran resumes activity of numerous mines in Isfahan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 9. Iran resumed production from 11 mines in Isfahan Province in the center of the country, over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023), Chairman of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of Isfahan Province, Amir Hossein Komeili told IRNA, Trend reports.

According to Komeili, there are currently approximately 850 licensed mines in the province. About 60 percent of them are under operation.

The chairman also added that it is planned to hold auctions to resume production from other inactive mines in the province.

The official emphasized Iran’s Isfahan Province has rich reserves of gold, lead, zinc, iron, copper, barite, and bentonite minerals. At present, various decorative stones and minerals for the production of construction materials are extracted from more than 400 mines in the province.

Reportedly, Iran's total mineral reserves stand at 60 billion tons. So far, 81 types of mining minerals have been discovered in the country.

In addition, 12,000 mines have been licensed for operation in the country, and 6,700 mines are operating.
