High harvest of agriculture plants observed in Azerbaijan

High harvest of agriculture plants is observed in Azerbaijan in 2005. From January to October potato harvest comprised around 1,600 tons, or 54,000 tons more as compared 2004, the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry told Trend. The sown area of potato makes up over 70,000 hectares.

The main reason for increase of potato production is expansion of the sown area by 8.7% in 2005. The Agriculture Ministry reported that the potato harvest was forecasted over 1m tons in 2005.

In 2004 the potato production growth was 21% or 930,100 tons.

Besides, over this period total vegetable harvest comprised 1,104,000 tons, or 54,000 tons as compared 2004. The figure on fruits made up over 500,000 tons, or 165,000 tons as compared 2004. Melons and gourds harvest amounted 363,000 tons, or approximately 9,000 more as compared 2004.
