Talks on   Azerbaijan’s Joining WTO to be Held in July

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / The Secretariat of the World Trade Organization (WTO) has reported that the 5th stage of negotiations with the working group on Azerbaijan's joining WTO will be held in Geneva on 21 July, the head of the talk group, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister, Mahmoud Mammadguliyev, said on 6 June.

Azerbaijan seeks joining WTO as a developing country, but for this purpose the support of the main members of the organization ( United States, Japan, Canada, Australia, and European Union countries) is required.

Azerbaijan has held four meetings with WTO so far. The first two meetings were dedicated to foreign trade regime. In 2005, during latest two years the country proceeded to full-scale negotiations.

Azerbaijan was preparing for the regular round of talks at the end of last year. However, WTO countries inquired for additional information. New proposals on price, anti-monopoly, customs, and taxes policy were put forward.

In 1997, Azerbaijan got the status of supervisor in WTO.
