The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) approved four projects for implementation in Uzbekistan in 2020-2021 totaling more than 1 million euros within the framework of the Technical Cooperation Program, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s Foreign Ministry.
According to the information of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Austria, the projects are aimed at building up technical capacity and human resources, developing nuclear infrastructure, strengthening the nuclear and radiation safety of peaceful uses of nuclear energy in Uzbekistan.
From the Uzbek side, the project executors are the Uzatom atomic Agency, the State Committee for Industrial Safety, the Institute of Nuclear Physics, the National University of Uzbekistan, Samarkand State University, and the Tashkent City Oncology Center.
The IAEA technical cooperation program provides for the strengthening of nuclear and radiation safety in the operation of nuclear facilities in Uzbekistan, the development and implementation of modern nuclear technologies in medicine and other sectors of the economy, as well as the dissemination of nuclear knowledge.
