BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 6. Italy's imports of crude oil and petroleum products from Azerbaijan have seen a decrease in the first eight months of 2023, Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office, told Trend.
According to Eurostat's data, Italy imported a total of 7.8 million metric tons of these commodities from January to August 2023, with a total import value of 4.6 billion euros for the same period.
In August 2023, Azerbaijan reduced its supply to Italy, delivering 904,452 metric tons of crude oil and petroleum products. This marked a 17.7 percent decrease compared to the 1.1 million metric tons shipped in July. Italy's expenditures on these imports from Azerbaijan during August also saw a decrease, dropping to 553.6 million euros from the 631 million euros spent in July, showing a 12.3 percent decrease.
Azerbaijan's oil is transported to neighboring countries and global markets through three major pipelines: Baku-Novorossiysk, Baku-Supsa, and Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC).
Currently, transportation via the Baku-Supsa pipeline is temporarily suspended.
Additionally, oil is exported by rail to the Georgian terminals in Batumi and Kulevi.
