BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 24. Between January and September 2023, Italy imported 7.373 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), Trend reports via a source familiar with the matter.

This total volume encompasses the 841 million cubic meters of gas supplied solely in the month of September, said the source.

Situated at the core of Europe's energy infrastructure, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline plays a crucial role as a key conduit, facilitating the transportation of approximately 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas to diverse markets. What sets TAP apart is its noteworthy potential for expansion, boasting the capacity to achieve an annual threshold of 20 billion cubic meters. The strategic and economic importance of TAP is underscored by its indispensable role in ensuring Europe's continuous access to a reliable natural gas supply.

This pivotal role significantly contributes to bolstering energy security, fostering the diversification of energy sources, and expediting progress towards ambitious decarbonization objectives. TAP stands as a cornerstone in Europe's energy landscape, embodying resilience and adaptability in the pursuit of a sustainable and secure energy future.
