CISCO to expand digital transformation opportunities of Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan.14

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The CISCO company (US) has a huge number of ‘Smart City’ projects for Azerbaijan, reflecting the initiatives on its digital transformation, Ramil Eyyubov, head of the program for accelerating digitalization in the country, told Trend.

According to Eyyubov, the ‘Smart City in Azerbaijan’ project will operate according to the ‘system of systems’ model, where a number of different projects will be included in one large data processing center, such as the digitalization of agriculture, the energy industry, healthcare, as well as their interaction with government agencies.

"The ultimate goal of the project is to integrate the above subsystems into one unified system. Our goal is to introduce as many subsystems, industries, and verticals into the project as possible. These include healthcare, education, transport, energy, water resources, and many other spheres," he said.

The program’s head noted that all the above industries and verticals are increasingly digitalized to improve the project's further efficiency.

"The ‘Smart City’, in turn, is a system that will unite these sub-systems, and they will function together and interconnected. We are confident that further work in this direction in Azerbaijan will be in the implementation of the integration of a steadily growing number of verticals. This will begin from sectors where the need for digitalization is the highest, and continue with other sectors with the industries of secondary importance," said Eyyubov.

He stressed that within these initiatives, CISCO is carrying out a number of activities that allow modeling all those projects that will help to understand how effectively all these technologies can be used within ‘Smart City’ both at present and in the future.

"Every day we observe the emergence of many new products for the implementation of the concept of ‘Smart City’ itself, for example, cars without a driver appear in some cities, which is also included in the Smart City project, modern meters that allow checking online flow rate of electricity or water, as well as a number of other possibilities," he added.
