Kazakhstan's PM, Chevron VP discuss implementation of joint projects

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a meeting with Nigel Hearn, Executive Vice President of Chevron Oil & Gas Company, and Clay Neff, President of Chevron International Exploration and Production, Trend reports, citing the press service of Kazakh PM.

The head of the Kazakh government and the Chevron top managers discussed the progress of future expansion and wellhead pressure management projects at Tengiz, measures to increase the throughput capacity of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) pipeline system, as well as current issues of Karachaganak field development.

Smailov added that Kazakhstan is interested in continuing fruitful cooperation with Chevron, which has exceeded 30 years.

Chevron representatives also expressed their determination to continue their operations in Kazakhstan and spoke of the benefits that their cooperation brought to the Central Asian country.

“We have brought our technical expertise, technological solutions, and capital investment to the country, constantly working to improve performance. During that time, Tengizchevroil [Tengiz field operator with a 50 percent share belonging to Chevron] has made $176 billion in direct payments to Kazakhstani companies, including employee wages, purchase of local goods and services, taxes, etc.,” Hearn said.

Earlier, Mike Wirth, the CEO of Chevron, said that the company plans to boost oil output in Kazakhstan by up to 1 million barrels per day. He made the statement during the CERAWeek energy conference in early March 2023.
