Around 600 local residents in western Herat province of Afghanistan on Thursday protested against Iran and blocked the main highway between Herat and Islam Qala, Afghanistani Khaama Press reported.
According to reports the demonstration was organized to protest against the execution of 13 Afghans by Iran.
The angry protesters shouted against Iran and also blamed the Afghan government for being reckless towards the execution of Afghan citizens and refugees based in Iran.
This is the second time Iran is executing Afghan citizens during the past one week. The individuals were reportedly hanged over drugs and opium smuggling.
The protesters also called on the Iranian government to hand over the dead bodies of the Afghans to their families and urged the Afghan government to strictly follow the issue of Afghan citizens execution in Iran.
Local government officials have not commented regarding the protest and execution of Afghans. This comes as Iran earlier handed over dead bodies of a group of Afghan men who were hanged in Iran.
Takhar provincial governor said around 5 men belonging to this province were hanged in Iran and their dead bodies were returned to their families.
