Iran's non-oil product imports on rise

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. Iran's imports of non-oil products increased by 9.77 percent in value terms and by 4.39 percent in weight terms in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Iran's Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance and Director General of Iran's Customs Administration Mohammad Rezvanifar said, Trend reports.

According to Rezvanifar, Iran's non-oil imports last year amounted to 39 million tons worth about $66.3 billion.

Rezvanifar added that Iran mainly imported corn worth $3.78 billion, cell phones worth $2.9 billion, and gold bars worth about $1.9 billion last year.

The official noted that last year Iran mainly received about $20.8 billion from the UAE, $18.5 billion from China, $7.54 billion from Türkiye, about $2.16 billion from Germany, and about $1.92 billion from India. Iran's product imports last year were 76 percent in value terms and 65 percent in weight terms, coming from the mentioned 5 countries.

He stated that Iran's trade turnover (imports and exports) amounted to more than $153 billion last year. The trade turnover increased by 2.6 percent compared to the previous year.

To note, Iran mainly focuses on the import of products needed by the country and imposes certain restrictions on the import of products manufactured in the country.
