Turkish Interior Minister lays emphasis on international cooperation in elimination of terrorism

Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay on Friday laid emphasis on importance of international cooperation to eliminate terrorism, Anadolu News Agency reported.

"A country can not overcome terrorism problem on its own. Turkey, which suffered a lot from this problem, in every opportunity expresses the importance of international cooperation in fight against terrorism," Atalay said while addressing the third meeting of the interior ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Istanbul.

Atalay said Turkey wished strategies to be developed in global, regional and local sense to combat terrorism.

Turkish interior minister underlined importance of boosting security cooperation among member countries to achieve desired economic development and for the peace and security of the region.

"Terrorism is one of the most severe threats against world societies. Terrorism is the common enemy of whole humanity. Terrorism does not have religion, race, color and sect. Terrorism is not more a danger threatening a specific geography, but threatens whole humanity," Atalay said.

Atalay said Turkey would support any contribution to peace of the region and the world, "a successful and lasting fight against terrorism depends on international cooperation based on sincerity and confidence."

"Turkey, situated in the center of Eurasia continent, attaches high importance to peace, security and stability on the whole geography," he said.

Atalay said, "Turkey endeavors for security, solidarity, cultural integration and tolerance particularly in its region. Turkey tries to put forth approaches focusing on solution, not crisis. Turkey develops close relations with its neighbors acting in zero problem stance. We think that a developed economic cooperation and development require political dialogue."

Atalay said, "being ECO member countries, we should display extreme care to sovereignty rights of each other and implement legal mechanisms that would make international cooperation operational."

Turkish interior minister said, "we believe that convening under the roof of ECO aiming to boost spirit of cooperation will add momentum to activities within the scope of ECO."
