S. Korean investors to acquire Uzbek companies’ state assets

Uzbekistan's President Islam Karimov received South Korea's First Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade and Natural Resources Lee Hwang-sop, Uzbek national news agency Uza reported Nov. 6.

Lee Hwang-sop arrived in Tashkent within a representative delegation of the South Korea to attend the International Investment Forum.

Islam Karimov and Lee Hwang-sop discussed the South Korean investors' participation in privatizing state enterprises and assets in Uzbekistan, as well as the joint implementation of investment projects in main industries and infrastructure.

During the meeting, Uzbek president stressed that South Korea is one of the key investment and technology partners of Uzbekistan.

A number of strategic projects are being realized in various sectors of economy of Uzbekistan with an active participation of South Korean businesses.

Lee Hwang-sop noted that South Korea attaches high priority to the development and strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation with Uzbekistan.

UzA reported that the parties also highly appreciated the signing of 24 agreements and memorandums at the International Investment Forum.

These documents were signed for acquisition of state assets in the oil and gas, chemical, electrical and technical, machine building and food industries, production of construction materials, and infrastructure sectors in Uzbekistan for over $220 million.
