By Fatih Karimov – Trend:
Iran will start distributing gasoline conforming to Euro-4 standard in south-western cities of Abadan, Shadgan and Khorramshahr from next week, Ali Hekmat, an official with the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), said.
Some 500,000 liters of Euro-4 gasoline will be distributed in the three cities on a daily basis, Hekmat said, oil ministry’s SHANA news agency reported June 29.
Once the quality improvement projects of the Abadan refinery, located in southwest of the country, become operational from next week, the refinery will supply NIORDC with 500,000 liters of Euro-4 gasoline, which will be sold in the cities of Abadan, Shadgan and Khorramshar, he added.
Iran currently distributes gasoline conforming to Euro-4 standard in several major cities, including Tehran, Tabriz, Arak, Isfahan, Karaj and Mashhad as a part of efforts to reduce air pollution.
The daily gasoline consumption in Iran stands at about 85 million liters per day. Over the past Iranian year (ended on March 20), the gasoline import to Iran increased by 100 percent.
In the meantime, the country’s gasoline consumption rose by 2 percent. During the last Iranian fiscal year, Iran imported nine million liters of gasoline per day, whereas the number was 4.5 million liters per day a year earlier.
The country’s nine refineries on average produced 62.5 million liters of gasoline per day during the last fiscal year.
Iran says it will stop gasoline import by August 2016 after the Persian Gulf Star refinery's first phase becomes operational. The Islamic Republic currently imports only Euro-4 gasoline.
