Iran to claim for OPEC secretary general post

Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi said that Iran will claim for OPEC secretary general post, IRNA reported.

Qasemi said that Libyan Abdullah El-Badri has served as secretary general at OPEC since 2007 for two terms and Iran is preparing to discuss getting this post for next term at upcoming members' meeting.

"We will discuss the need of keeping oil crude output's level among members, emphasizing the OPEC members' commitments to produce crude oil only as much as their defined quota.

OPEC members' meeting will be held on June 14 in Vienna.

According to OPEC monthly report published in May, the members' oil crude output increased to 31.621 million barrels per day in April, indicating an increase of 0.32 mb/d from the previous month.

Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Libya's oil production increased by 56,000, 217,700 and 87,500 respectively, reaching 9.897, 3.025 and 1.423 million barrels per day in April compared to March.

Iran's oil production level dropped by 134,000 barrels per day to 3.196 million barrels per day in April compared to March.
