A terrorist attack has been prevented in Dagestan, in Russia's North Caucasus, TASS agency reported referring to the information center of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee.

A gunman was neutralized in Dagestan's Kizilyurt region during an anti-terrorist operation on Monday, it said. "He was preliminarily identified as Alidibir Asudinov, born in 1985, - an active member of the so-called Kizilyurt gang on the federal wanted list for terrorism-related crimes," its sources said.

"The gang planned a series of high-profile terrorist attacks in the republic," they added, saying a 15-liter bucket stuffed with explosives, a ready for use self-made explosive device and several sacks with 170 kilograms of explosive material had been found in the house.
